This year’s Dry Grad will have a different format with regards to how the kids prepare and leave for the event. We are asking that the kids change out of their formal wear (if they plan to change out of it) BEFORE boarding the buses to the event. So we are hoping that a parent can volunteer a truck and enclosed utility trailer of some sort to transport the garment bags of formal wear to a safe location overnight, before meeting the grads at DWP for pickup at around 4:30 am on June 21. Other volunteer assistance we will need for the Dry Grad Event are: Volunteers at the Ramada 11:00- 11:30 4-5 parents to assist at the Ramada at the end of the prom, transporting the garment bags into above mentioned trailer(we are asking the Ramada if we can borrow their garment racks for the night and transport them back to the hotel the next morning if possible) Volunteers at the Metro Hall: Since the event only runs from 12:30 - 3:30 we are asking for volunteers to stay the whole time if possible. Coat Check/General supervision: 4 parents Casino Dealers: 3-6 parents (can shift each other off as there is 1 blackjack, 1 poker and 1 roulette table) Live Action Photo Stage: 1 parent Other misc duties (assisting psychic, tattoo/henna lineups, general supervision etc): 4 parents Volunteers at DWP for 4:00 Pickup: 4 parents to assist handing formal wear back to students (along with volunteer with truck and trailer). We have a meeting at DWP on Wednesday June 3 at 7:00pm. Please feel free to attend, especially if you are offering assistance at the dry grad evening. Also you can email me directly @ [email protected] if you wish to put your name in to volunteer at the event. _______________ Also if your son/daughter still wants to purchase a ticket, we have only 29 tickets left for the event. If you had a chance to watch the DW Poppy Musical Production of “Guys and Dolls” on Saturday night, you would have seen one of our finest Musical performances ever. Watching the growth of the performers from opening night to the closing evening was truly inspirational. Our gracious thanks to all of the parents and our staff team of: Director- Ms. Blount, Musical Director- Mr. Ablitt, Stage Craft Teacher- Mr. Loewen, and Choreography Instructors- Ms. Rivera and Ms. Maddie Hall. In addition there were countless staff members who supported the production to become a tremendous success. We are in great shape to develop our Musical Theatre Academy next year.
This past weekend all of the DW Poppy Rugby Teams competed in the Langley Seven’s Championships. Poppy came away with several titles that included: Grade 8 Boys, Senior Girls and the Senior Boys. MVP Honours went to Natalie Belansky, Gabriel Anderson and Max Lawry. Poppy has a large contingent of dedicated Rugby Coaches that includes: Mr. Munsie, Mr. Barry, Mrs. Clarke, Ms. Murray and parent volunteer- Brian Anderson. We would also like to thank our alumni: Harry Senkler, Kyle Sagert and Dan Kostiuk for their assistance with the Junior Squad.
There have been some great things to celebrate over the past two weeks at DW Poppy. Our Student Government organized a Pep Rally on February 24 to recognize our winter sports teams. This was followed up by a very successful school dance. School Spirit continues to be big part of the Poppy tradition. Our thanks to our Teacher Sponsors- Mr. Harrison and Ms. Cook and our student leaders.

The Ministry of Education has been providing scholarships and awards to BC’s high school students since 1987. There have been some changes over the years, but the time is right to conduct a comprehensive review of the program. The goal of the review is to better recognize and support students’ accomplishments and circumstances. We are seeking feedback from students, teachers, parents, school counsellors, administrators, and employers. The online survey will be open until March 10, 2015. There are several ways to participate in this process: • Take the online survey at engage.gov.bc.ca/scholarships • Submit an email to [email protected] • Phone us directly at 250-356-7561 • Mail your comments to: Scholarships & Awards Review Student Certification PO Box 9886 Stn Prov Govt Victoria BC V8W 9T6 Thank you for your participation.
