On Friday, October 10th the DW Poppy Courtyard was overtaken by a variety of pirates and other scallywags as the Grad Class of 2015 hosted the annual Pirate Day Barbeque. During this festive event, the outgoing Grad Class (2015) hosts a hot dog BBQ to welcome the incoming Grad Class (2019) -- this year's Grade 8's -- to DW Poppy.
This is the first of many events for the Grad class organized by the Grad Council. Because of the late start to the school year, there was just over a week for this event to be organized by the grads. Destiny Klynsoon and Braedan Palmer stepped up to the plate and, under the guidance of Mr. Harrison, were able to organize a terrific lunchtime adventure for the Grade 8's. All Grade 8's were treated to a hot dog, juice box, a bag of chips and a cupcake (created by a baking committee headed by Leia Roberds). There were games a-plenty for the Grade 8's to take part in, a candy contest and live music provided by Mitch Misyk, Riley Cowan and Eric Thomasen. An event like this would not be possible without the support of key members of the Poppy community. Many thanks go out to Carlo Bonetti of Bonetti Meats, Merilee McAuley of Otter Co-Op, Glenda Siemens of Aldergrove Save-On and Neil Reddy of Langley Buns Master for their generous donations towards this event. We could not have done this without your support and on behalf of the DW Poppy Grad Council, a huge Thank You is extended. Reminder for parents to book their appointments for parent teacher conferences next Thursday. We look forward to seeing you next week.
