Notice of Motion for Potential Closure of Langley Secondary School
A Notice of Motion on December 16, 2014 to consider the potential closure of Langley Secondary School (LSS) has been served by the Board of Education in order to initiate the closure consultation process as outlined in Policy No. 5029. The potential closure of Langley Secondary School is included in a number of possible scenarios outlined in the District’s Long Term Facilities plan. With this notice, the Board will begin public consultation so that should a recommendation arise in which closure of LSS becomes part of the implementation of the Long Term Facilities plan, the District will have followed the procedures in Policy. The notice of motion does not mean the school will be closed, merely that the possible closure will be considered at a future open Regular Meeting of the Board of Education. Information on the Notice of Motion for Potential Closure of LSS and the Long Term Facilities Plan is available at www.d35.bc.ca/ltfp. Our last week of classes before the Winter Break is upon us. There will be several activities throughout the week to celebrate the season. Please visit the Leadership Groups Page for a list of the upcoming activities.
Earlier this week 30 of our computer/business students in Mr. Janzen's class went on a field trip to EA Sports in Burnaby. The trip included a one hour presentation by James, a NHL Software Programmer, followed by a tour of the facility by Wendell and Meagan, the Outreach Coordinators.
James spoke to the students about the importance of getting an education to work in the gaming field. He explained about the importance of Coop experiences to being prepared for the world ahead. Students were also given the opportunity to learn about the teamwork needed to produce a game, from animators, engineers, programmers, capture motion, to people who spend their day playing games to find glitches! All in all it was a wonderful experience and 10 lucky students won new video games as a prize for answering a skill testing question. See below for some images from the trip.
